LILLIFIELD Community - 4505 Kyogle Road - KYOGLE 2474 NSW AUSTRALIA - leave feedback
As a real bush
community our
aim is the protec-
tion of the native
wildlife in its na-
tive habitat like
lantana jungles
and wattle forest.
We do encourage
the gentle regene-
ration of the rain
forest without poi-
son or heavy ma-
chinery to mini-
mise pollution of
the water ways
and the noise to our neighbours. The topsoil under lantana is extremely fragile and
all but gone after only a short bout of rain. The resulting erosion silts up the ponds
of the endangered Platypus furter down in the gullies, and the local seed stock and natural fertliser is lost. Beside all that we embrace a "no-fire policy" because even
an old rotting log will provide food for uncountable species of birds and lizards!
Our own Landcare Group tries to educate the members and tenants of the communi-
ty about the importance of our countless species of birds, reptiles and mammals in
the success of reforestation. Lancare Australia teaches us to tread carefully whilst clearing weeds and replanting the rain forest without disturbing the local flora and fauna. By destroying the habitat of the animals reforestation doesn't make sense!
Big clearing operations should really be object to a Development Application to the local Council and approval by the community, especially by the next-door members who will bear the brunt of the noise and smoke. Reforestations on a big scale will provide machinery noise and manual labour for decades to come - this is a reason
why most of this projects won't succeed and are sooner or later abandoned . . .

Good luck to our last Platypus!
